Val Dieu

Val Dieu is the Belgian Beer Brewer that first convinced me to abandon tasteless, sterile, subdued Domestic Beers and branch out to the International Market for great tasting Beers. My favorite is the Val Dieu Brune, allegedly designed from an old monastery recipe, and nobody knows their beer better than Monks living in some Monastery devoid of anything that can be remotely called fun. There is a slight hint of a mocha or coffee flavor to the recipe, though this quickly vanishes and at 8% alcohol it packs a moderate punch. Three or four of these is usually enough to send me to that blessed realm in between sobriety and drunken stupors.

Anheuser-Busch Agrees to be bought.

An interesting development that I've been paying close attention to over the past few weeks, is the attempted buy out of Anheuser-Busch by In-Bev an enormous Belgian Distributor. Today, the top dogs at Anheuser-Busch agreed to be bought at the tidy sum of close to 50 billion dollars. That means America's leading brand (for reasons unknown to this avid drinker), Budweiser will be owned by the distributors of Stella Artois, and Becks. I guess the only question that comes to my mind, is will it actually make Budweiser and Bud Light taste any better? I doubt it. If it weren't for the possibility of people being laid off, I was kind of hoping In-Bev would just get rid of the Bud products all together.

The merger will create the largest beer distributor known to man, and a few women as well. The Florida based Theme Parks of Busch Gardens, Sea World Orlando, Adventure Island will also be owned by the giant Belgian conglomerate.

A Love Affair With Beer

Belgian Beer Goggles is my little tribute to the finely crafted brews that I enjoy, usually moderately.
